Bodybuilding - How to Choose The Best Bodybuilding Program

By: Shannon Clark

If you're on the search for a bodybuilding program, there are a variety of factors you need to take into consideration. There are a wide variety of choices when it comes to selecting a bodybuilding program, so by equipping yourself with the knowledge of understanding which ones will best serve your goals, you are one step further to seeing the results you're after.

Here is what you need to consider.

Time

The first and potentially the most important factor that you need to take into consideration is that of time. How much total time are you going to be able to dedicate to a workout program? If you can only make it to the gym three days a week, obviously a bodypart split type of weight training program is not going to be a good option.

With those, you'll be working out five days a week - something that is not applicable to your current lifestyle situation.

Experience Level

Next up, you'll need to consider what your total experience level is. How long have you been lifting? Advanced bodybuilders will require a much different program than someone who is brand new to this type of physical activity.

Generally, those who are more advanced can handle a great volume placed upon their muscles, so that is what you are to keep in mind.

Attempting to do thirty sets a workout, four days a week if you are just starting is a surefire recipe for failure. Not that the program may be wrong, just that it's not right for you.

Again, the type of weight lifted will also correspond to your current level. Advanced lifters can play around more with one rep maxes and lifting incredibly heavy. This is due to the fact that they have already mastered perfect form and will not need to worry that they are going to move out of alignment part-way through the lift, thus setting themselves up for injury.

Type Of Split

Next, look at the overall type of split that the program is based upon. Is it a full body workout? Or maybe it's an upper/lower type of set-up? There are a couple of variations when it comes to upper/lower splits, so be aware of the differences.

Try one for a month or two, see how you progress, then move over to another approach. The possibilities are really endless when it comes to how you can set-up your bodybuilding program.

Creator Of The Program

Finally, the last thing you must take into account is where you are getting this program from. Is it from someone who just wrote out a generic program tailored to any individual who wants to get in shape?

This is not going to be the best approach.

For example, if you are looking to build muscle, you'll want to get a program from someone who has been there and done that. A personal trainer is really a walking advertisement of him or herself, therefore, have a good look at their current shape. Is this what you're going for? If so, you're on the right track.

So, keep these points in mind next time you're on the hunt for a workout program. Choosing the right program is definitely a critical element in the equation of success
